As we round out our mini-series on each of the provinces, we thought it was only proper to finish with Western Cape. Home to Cape Town and therefore the most popular destination for travelers to South Africa. With an area roughly the size of Greece, this province offers plenty for all visitors. Nestled between the mountains and the beach, where the coast line sees the meeting of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, everyone can find something to do in Western Cape.

Western Cape is one of the best places to go shark diving. Many companies leave right out of Cape Town for convenience. Each one goes through multiple safety instructions and does everything possible to make sure you feel comfortable and have a positive experience. If that’s a little too adventurous for you, try hiking. The Cederberg is not only one of the best but one of the most beautiful places to hike. While you hike there are lots of landmarks to see including the Wolfberg Arch and Cracks, Sneeukop and Krakodouw peak, Stadsaal Caves, and examples of San rock art. The area holds the endangered Clanwilliam Cedar tree under active conservation by the Botanical Society and Western Cape Nature Conservation.

If you’re an adult looking for a more relaxing experience, Western Cape has numerous vineyards that are worth exploring. If you want to explore the vineyards as well as the picturesque scenery, The Franschhoek Wine Tram is a great idea. It’s a hop-on hop-off adventure where you’ll learn the history of the area and get to explore each vineyard as you choose. If you want a family friendly adventure look to the Stony Point Penguin Colony. Around since 1982, there are now almost 4,000 penguins living in the colony. The penguins were listed as a vulnerable species within the past few years because of oil spills and natural causes. They remain protected in these colonies while boardwalks allow visitors to get an up-close look at their world.
